This is my unconfirmed theory for the significance of the blood marks you can see placed on Finn’s helmet. They are going in a different direction, but there are three marks, and I think that is quite intentional. Since JJ Abrams first saw John Boyega in his amazing film Attack the Block, this one makes a lot of sense to me. What do you think?
Lately I have been trying to step up my game as far as photographing action figures. I’m starting to work on more figure review for my friends over at CollectionDX! They already have some pretty awesome reviews of the Attack on Titan Figma series that you can check out! So I just wanted to have some fun and take some cool pictures since I was unboxing them for my shelf anyway. Something interesting happened though. I opened my Eren Yaeger figure last, and thought things seemed weird with the packaging. Welp, turns out I got a SUPER OBVIOUS BOOTLEG figure. Fortunately, despite being outside of the return window, Amazon took care of me and issued a refund. With that in mind, I ordered myself a new Eren, that will hopefully be an official product. Once that happens I am going to do a side by side comparison of the official release vs. the bootleg. For now though, here are some photos!
I am currently using felt for my background, photo lighting, and my iPhone 5s. Still on the fence about whether or not I need a new camera.
One thing I wanted to note, however, was that these figures are super detailed and come with a lot of options. Because of this, they are a bit hard to pose. Getting the stand attached with the cape on proved a bit difficult to me. And I ended up rubbing off some of the jacket on my Levi. I don’t know how much of this was my fault, and how much is the bad design, but it’s a bit of a bummer.
Has anyone else had this kind of experience with their figma’s?
Well, the official Comic Con Exclusives page is up, and I’ve perused it in full. There are a good mix of exclusives, and I believe some have yet to be announced. Considering Comic Con is in 2 weeks, I wish they would hurry up! Here are some of the exclusives I am most interested in!
Bandai America Incorporated
Booth # 3535
Limited Edition Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Dino Charger Power Pack – $30.00These Power Packs from Power Rangers Dino Charge are the new equivalents to the Ranger Keys from Power Rangers Super Megaforce (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger). The Ranger Keys were miniature figurines of the characters and gave you the opportunity to get a manageable collection of every Power Rangers / Super Sentai team. Considering there have been 22 seasons of Power Rangers and 39 Super Sentai teams, that’s quite a large collection. These power packs aren’t quite as appealing as the ranger keys, but it is a nice set that includes the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team, and these will be exclusive in America, especially considering the white ranger is not part of the Sentai equivalent Zyuranger.
Booth # 140
X-Plus Gigantic Series Super Saiyan Goku (SDCC Variant) – $65.00I’m not really into the super large shogun type figures, but having a gigantic Goku sounds a little appealing. I used to have a 12″ Goku figure that I ended up selling at a Flea Market. I sold it because I thought “Oh, I am growing up, I should probably sell my toys”. What a dumb idea. I have regretted it ever since. That’s a major reason I am such a packrat. Most people say “Just get rid of it, you won’t even remember you had it!” But I regret almost everything I ever get rid of. R.i.P 12″ Goku!I especially love the translucent hair, that gets me every time. But what is going on with the crotch folds on that pants fabric? That’s a bit Georgia O’Keefe by my estimation. I think I am going to pass on this one, but it’s tempting all the same.
Booth # 3545
S.H. Figuarts Goku Frieza Saga Ver. – $45.00Thar’ she blows! This is the exclusive I am the most excited about so far, and I am definitely going to get this one. I already have three S.H. Figuarts Goku figures, but there’s always room for more! I prefer this version with his proper training symbols and the yellow striped boots. Now I will make my other non-saiyan Goku be my “goofball” posed figure! I typically like putting my figures in funny poses, but then I feel like it’s wasting their goodness and revert back to action poses. So this time, with multiple Goku to work with, I may just be able to make my “Super happy DBZ funtime” scene. :)Now, this is the only exclusive listed for Bluefin, and I’m fairly certain their other one will be Sailor Moon related. So that means I am at least getting both of those!
Famous Monsters of Filmland
Booth # 1507
Famous Monsters 281 Godzilla v. Ghidrah Shirt by Bob Eggleton – $20.00I’m on the fence with this one. I have two Famous Monsters shirts now. Mothra vs. Godzilla and a special exclusive Godzilla, Ultraman and Kikaida. In theory I love King Ghidorah, though I like Mecha-King Ghidorah a bit more. This shirt is definitely more of a Ghidorah shirt than a Godzilla one, and there is a lot of empty space up in the sky. But it has some charm.Chances are I will probably pick it up though. I have a lot of duplicate shirts with friends, and it will be nice to have something that not everyone else has 🙂
Squid Kids Ink
Booth # 5051
Ninja Girls with UDON Noodles – $20.00I don’t know if you’ve seen these little blind-box figures, but they are super cute. They are anthropomorphic Nintendo cartridges with parody art of random game titles. This one is clearly a parody of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I have two of these so far and they’re cool little desk figurines. My buddy Jeff got me onto these things, and I will definitely be getting one of these this year!
UCC Distributing Inc.
Booth # 700
Funko Pop Dragonball Z Chrome Metallic Vegeta – $14.99I am more on the fence about this purchase than I realistically should be. I mean, everyone loves Funko Pop’s right? And collecting them is the whole point, right? I already have regular Vegeta, Frieza, Piccolo, Cell, and the Entertainment Earth exclusive Goku. While the metallic might look cool, I don’t know where I would put it,and I just kind of feel like I don’t need it.That being said, I may do what I do every year and be like OMG EXCLUSIVE I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED THIS and buy 3 just in case.
Booth # 2813
Exclusive Manga Replica: Dragon Ball – $150.00This year is a very very Dragon Ball year. I mean, look at all these exclusives. The new movie will be in theaters in August in America. Dragon Ball Super is going to be a thing. And here we have some Manga Replica’s. It’s a dream com true for a DB fan girl! I guess I am definite…wait…what???
$150.00? For a replica? Seriously? I don’t know if this is a misprint or not, but that seems pretty high to me. I might skip this one after all. 🙁 If only there were some affordable Manga replica prints of a series that I really loved…
Exclusive Manga Replica: Naruto – $15.00OH HELLO NARUTO! Naruto is a natural thing to love if you love Dragon Ball. It’s so clear that Kishimoto Masashi-san is a huge fan of Toriyama Akira-san’s work. These are my two favorite anime of all time. Goku was a great character in Dragon Ball, but as Z progressed he lost a bit of what made him great. On the flip side, Naruto’s heart is what carries the show. The titular character might be one of my favorite characters of all time. You root for him without fail, and his determination is inspiring. So yeah, this one is definitely going up on my wall!
And look! In the course of writing this blog update Bluefin announces their other Comic-Con exclusive! Well, technically it’s the first bad-guy figure for the Sailor Moon series. And I am collecting all the rest. So, looks like I will
And now to reveal our other Tamashii Nations #SDCC2015 exclusive – S.H. Figuarts Impostor #SailorMoon!Look out Tuxedo…
There’s something you may not know about me, but I collect S.H. Figuarts. The ones I am collecting mostly right now are the DBZ figures. There have been a few new figured announced that I want to talk about. First up is the Bluefin Tamashii Nations S.H Figuart of Goku that is an SDCC 2015 exclusive.
Time to reveal one of our two SDCC exclusives for this year… S.H. Figuarts Goku Frieza Saga Ver.!Complete your…
I was pretty excited when I knew that one of the exclusives this year was going to be Dragonball Z. However, this figure is very close to the Goku that I already have, which is in the regular form before powering up to Super Saiyan. The Gi is different with the proper symbols, and there is a new face. That said, I will probably get him although I don’t really need to have two Goku’s. I wish that this variant had come with a Halo, that would have been fun, still waiting for that one. So this was a pretty luke-warm announcement for me.
What I am *really* excited are the two non-SDCC releases that have just been announced. One of the figures I am missing from my collection is Super Saiyan Vegeta. This figure was released as a web exclusive, and has been going for upwards of $400 dollars on eBay, it’s crazy! The thing about exclusives is that sometimes it’s a heartbreaking endeavor to a collector. Sometimes you miss a figure announcement, life happens, or you want to wait to buy the figure to space out purchases. However, a bunch of re-sellers snatch up any exclusives just to flip them online.
I was sad at the realization that perhaps I would never get a Vegeta. My highest hopes were that a SS head would come with another figure, like if they ever would release Nappa. HOWEVER!!! S.H. Figuarts is releasing a new version of Vegeta, the “Advanced Color” which will be a Tamashii Web Exclusive.
This is quite an exciting announcement as I can now add Vegeta to my shelf, where he should be! But additionally they will be releasing this power up effect part which I am just in love with! I love all the effect parts they have been adding as it really builds character in a scene you are building.
The one I am perhaps the most excited about, however, is the “Awakening Version” of Goku:
I already have one version of Goku, two on pre-order that will be on the way, another one I will probably get from SDCC and now this one!! I guess five Goku’s is as many as you need. Not to mention I also have a medicom kid Goku and a Santa Kid Goku. Ok, perhaps I am going a little Goku crazy. But look at this! The ripped clothing, the facial expression, this figure is amazing!!!!! It’s really specific, but I’m planning on having different shelves for the different sagas within the anime. This one will fit in really well with my Frieza saga shelf!
I’m also planning on trying to do some toy reviews for the S.H. Figuarts DBZ line, so this will be more motivation to get all of these figures! For now, I wait, ANXIOUSLY!
Hey, remember our old friend Mothra (モスラ)? If you’re a Godzilla (ゴジラ) fan, you likely remember Mothra from this epic battle with super metal flame-wings Battra (バトラ). If you’re anything like me, you’re a huge fan of Mothra. I mean… she sprinkles friendship glitter on her foes and barrages them with lightning attacks to bend them towards her furry, loving will. It doesn’t get much better than that. Well! On September 9th, 2014 they released the Blu-ray version of “Rebirth of Mothra I/II/III” which has been remastered! Of course I got it and just viewed it today with my friends!
After the events in Godzilla vs. Mothra (ゴジラvsモスラ) it’s understandable that Mothra needed to take a nice long rest. I mean, it takes a lot of energy to save the world and protect mankind, especially when it’s against Godzilla AND Battra. Mothra enjoys some well deserved rest after laying her egg. Meanwhile Mr. Goto, one of our obligatory human characters, is running his construction company while destroying the earth and its’ ecosystem. In order to highlight this, one of the first scenes you see is a construction vehicle running over a nest of bird eggs!!! This theme of humans vs. nature is present in many of the Toho movies, and especially pertains to Mothra as she is a guardian of the earth. Well, as Mr. Goto is going about his business, he finds what looks to be a medallion in the mountainside and does what anyone would do…. he removes it from the stone and gives it to his daughter as a necklace. Of course! Well, little did he know that removing this medallion would break the seal holding Desghidora (Death-Ghidora デスギドラ) in his earthly prison! Clearly, this is a job for Mothra to once again save humanity from itself.
The original movie was released in 1996, but has since been remastered for this Blu-ray release, and it is beautiful. I am a sucker for practical effects, and you can see that this film threw in a little bit of CGI, but mostly used puppetry and tactile Kaiju, so it looks amazing. This is the first time I am watching this movie, and honestly it was better than I thought it would be! The overall pacing of the story moved along at a fast clip. We had some human story, but not too much. The twins were awesome, as always, and in this film we’re introduced to a mysterious new member of the same race, Belvera.
The Blu-ray itself doesn’t come with anything in the way of features as it just has the original trailer. This is to be expected for some of the older releases anyhow. The main attraction of this set is the great remastered quality. There are both English and Japanese audio and subtitles. I recommend using the ‘English 2’ subtitle track as the first track had a black text background and moved around a bunch. The second track was the much more standard subtitle track. So overall, if you’re a Mothra fan this Blu-ray is worth the buy, you can get it here: Rebirth of Mothra / Rebirth of Mothra II / Rebirth of Mothra III – Vol [Blu-ray]
P.S. If you came here as a Mothra fan then you REALLY need to check out Team Kultzow where I got this super awesome Mothra Necklace!
I love Kevin Smith for many reasons. He’s a compelling speaker, seems like an awesome Dad and husband, is from New Jersey, etc. I’ve grown up watching, relating to, and laughing at his movies. So, when he announced his retirement from making movies, it made me sad. Not too sad though since I still had Comic Book Men, Smodcast, and live performances during which I could enjoy all that Kevin Smith shares with us. So, when Kevin Smith started talking about this ridiculous idea for a movie, a horror movie, based on a man obsessed with Walrus’ it was an exciting time. Despite getting out of the movie business, Smith knew that no one would ever make this movie. He knew that if it was going to happen, he would have to do it himself. So here it was, hope that shortly after his departure from film, he would be coming back to give us a movie that could only come from the depths of his own brain.
So, I went to see Tusk last night for its opening. This movie delivered exactly what was promised, as highlighted by podcast audio in the end-credits of Kevin Smith brainstorming how Tusk would end. If you go into this movie expecting your run-of-the-mill standard horror movie, you will be disappointed. This is an absurd comedy horror, and should be viewed as such.
The shining star in this film was Michael Parks. This is considering Johnny Depp’s awesomely obscured performance. Parks engenders this charisma that makes you like him even when he’s being the largest creeper on the planet. Few can master this like him. The movie is worth seeing for his performance alone. That being said, the rest of the cast was strong as well. There was a bit of a conflict in my mind as I wanted to laugh at how ridiculous it all was, but the cast did not miss a beat. The acting was taken seriously and performances delivered were great.
I would definitely recommend watching the movie. It could quite easily be enjoyed at home, as the visual effects are not the main focus. However, if you’re looking for a movie to check out this weekend and just have some fun with, Tusk is a great choice.
Feeling less than is a horrible sinking ship that is hard to get yourself out of. Not only are you operating in a small sphere of day to day interaction, but now more than ever we’re exposed to society at instant light speeds via social media and news sites. With these wonderful technological advances come the good, and the bad. Not only are we subject to our own criticisms, but if you put yourself out there in any way, the whole world can now pile on. Every decision scrutinized, every photo dissected, and all confidence undermined. I find myself feeling bad about myself more and more because I see these women around me whom I consider beautiful, confident, and all around amazing getting knocked down by the internet truth anonymous justice squads. If they can’t be above reproach, what hope do I have?
So, imagine my surprise at this Buzzfeed post about Beyoncé photoshopping her thigh gap. What! Beyoncé is a beautiful and talented woman! She manages to appear confident and sexy while still seeming approachable and fun. Sure, I’ve never met her, but she puts herself out there, and I admire a lot of what she does. At first I was saddened that Beyoncé was doing this. Then I thought about this feeling I have, self-loathing and self-doubt, and I wondered to myself, does Beyoncé really go through the same thing? Does she feel compelled to Photoshop herself because even she does not live outside the reach of unrealistic beauty standards on Instagram? I mean.. how can you get more beautiful than this…
However, instead of taking a minute and thinking about how beautiful women such as Beyoncé feel this impetus to alter their images, and examining why this might be…. People are jumping to sleuth it out and post it screaming “GOTCHA!!! I CAUGHT YOU FEELING ASHAMED OF YOURSELF AND PHOTOSHOPPING YOUR IRRATIONAL SELF-PERCEIVED FLAWS TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF!!!” If it wasn’t that, it would be people pointing out cellulite or the slightest of imperfections saying “GOTCHA!! I CAUGHT YOU BEING HUMAN!”.
I think that moments like this should really give us pause to examine why our society is so obsessed with an unbelievable ideal that even the most adored among us fall victim to the weight. So maybe, instead of trying to Sherlock Holmes your way into internet popularity by calling someone out for just trying to post a picture that makes them feel good about themselves, we start embracing each other and not making people feel the need to do this?
I prefer to think that Beyoncé does not get embroiled in the cloud that is body hatred. I prefer to think that instead this is just some overzealous assistant who is supposed to just be posting the images color corrected for Beyoncé, but decided to make some more adjustments because of a warped ingrained view of society.
Makeup has never been one of my strongest suits, and I am still learning a lot about it. While learning I’ve been posting some images, and people have expressed interest in knowing what I am using. This baffles me, since I feel like I’m doing super easy and predictable stuff, but I figured I would try to share some information anyway! Bright colors and strong eye liners are one of my most common combinations, so I figured I would start there.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion There’s nothing worse than getting those thick creased lines of eyeshadow, and it used to be a huge problem for me. I finally decided to try a primer out, and I quite like this one. I use it both as an eyelid primer and an under eye primer before putting on concealer to prevent absorption into fine lines.
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeshadow Pencil
I love eyeshadow, especially when it is bright. My main issue with shadow powder is that it’s hard to get precision, especially when putting it under the eyes and not having it wander from loose powder on the applicator. This is why I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. It gives me the precision that I want, and the color is vibrant and lasts all day!!!
Benefit “They’re Real” Mascara
I have pretty good eyelashes. I’ve tried a number of mascaras that have just made them look spidery or clumpy and was always disappointed. This mascara really gives me a full look that I LOVE!
Bombshell onyx liquid liner
I love the idea of liquid liners, but I have a few issues with them. One, the applicator brush is just not as intuitive as a pencil is. Also, it tends to look a little leathery in its composition. What I love about the “Be a Bombshell” product is that it’s got a matte look to it and you apply it from a pencil device that has the eyeliner in it. No dipping or clumping on a brush. This is my favorite eye liner ever! Now I just need to practice my wings a bit.
I used to always put white eyeshadow right under my eyebrow to highlight the area, I loved the effect. But sometimes when I’m doing a more subdued shadow the white was too out of place. I found out about high brow from The Beauty Department and I LOVE it!
So, earlier on Facebook a link to “31 Questions That Will Change Your Life” was shared. Upon seeing it I was immediately reminded of a young Q answering surveys on AOL online. So, I figured this would be a good excuse to update the ol’ blog machines.
Are you doing what you truly want to do?
I would say yes to this. There’s a difference between what you plan on doing, and what you’re wanting to do right now. So, at this moment in time, what I am doing is what I truly want.
Do you have a dream to follow?
I have a lot of dreams, some more realistic than others. My bucket list consists of the following:
Get a Samoyed Dog
Go into Outer Space
Learn to play a musical instrument
Learn to Ski
Make a painting
Own a house with no HOA
Ride a horse
Run in a marathon
Speak another Language
Visit Japan, Australia, London
Work at a successful Silicon Valley Startup
Write a book
Get to Diamond in League of Legends
Be debt free.
I mean, dream implies something fanciful, but in order to follow it then I suppose it should be realistic. A lot of my items are pretty realistic, some bordering on mundane. Some of them are things I truly want to do, and some are things I feel like I “should” do. I guess I should get rid of the latter, because what is imposing that on me in the first place? One of the main dreams of my youth was to meet someone who would truly be an amazing partner and best friend in this life. So, that one I have already accomplished and living every day. I feel pretty lucky I can say that. (Man I should really put more badass stuff on my Bucket List)
League of Legends is one of the most played games in the eSports arena. It’s a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game that is inspired by DOTA, a Warcraft 3 Mod. Most players are male, but there is still a good amount of girls interested in the game as well. With this said, here’s a video that was released to introduce the “first” professional all-girl League of Legends team. I have heard there was an all female team in China, so I am not sure how accurate the “first” part really is. So, we shall start at the beginning, with this video:

My reactions to the video were a bit mixed. As a League of Legends player myself none of the information they pointed out was a big surprise. All of the championship games that I’ve watched were of teams that were all male, I already knew this. There are, of course, a few exceptions that may have one girl on the team. However, the biggest names that are in at the top competitive global level are typically all male. The video claims that only 10% of the player base is female, but I am not sure how they collect that data. There is no place in the game where I have entered my gender. But, let’s take that statistic at face value. This means that there’s a 9:1 chance of a LoL player being male. Logically, it just makes sense that women would be the minority in all aspects of the game. Since entries and trials are based on who has the skills and time to participate, I don’t feel as though any of this is a systemic issue of discrimination.
Gender was a huge focus of their marketing angle though. Making history, breaking the glass, rising above the stereotypes. This message can be empowering, polarizing or neutral. Some might look at this and get excited for this team paving the way for them to enter this world. Others might even be excited to try the game if they see other girls playing on this level. Some people, however, will react in a negative way saying that they are somehow a gimmick. And some, like me, just think it’s not very important information to the question at hand. Are they Gosu?
